One thousand brands of cornflakes, all the same
One thousand labor centers competing for tiny scraps

That's what the market decided
Must be what I wanted

Ten thousand hectares of farmland laid to waste
Ten thousand factories that pay a dollar a day
Tweny-three million people displaced without a fair wage
Fifteen more textile mills shut down in the USA

That's what the market decided
Must be what I wanted

60 billion dollars for Harken oil
46 million people to exploit

That's what the market decided
Must be what I wanted

The Central American Free Trade Agreement, or CAFTA

"You oughta head for Central America as fast as you can"

"I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that without this trade tree agreements we run t he risk ofthese countries falling to prey to others that have far less interest in democracy"

CAFTA would threaten family farmers and sustainable development, increase job loss and undermine worker rights, erode essential public services, and build momentum for a much larger free trade agreement called the Free Trade Area of the Americas that would include every country in Central America, South America, and Central Amercia, except Cuba.

Slavery is freedom
War is peace
Free trade is fair trade

"Doesn't that make you a bit upset?"

"If this is a success, then what would be a failure? We keep signing these agreements that are supposed to benefit our country and our position keep sgetting worse."

The Central America Free Trade Agreement, or CAFTA

What do we do?

Fight for positive policies na d reforms on a local level
Pass initiatives that prohibit the sale or planting of GMO crops
that forbid our state to purchase goods made in sweatshops
that require our state to buy recycled goods
and force manufacturers to reclaim, recycle, and reuse their products
from computers to cars to toilet p;aper

We're tying our own hands from choosing what's wrong or what's appropriate
We lose our right to decide how to run our own homes
