The Ballad of PJ Dimdeed

This song tells the story of the trial of billionaire PJ Dimdeed in the radio play Eternal Quest.

Old PJ Dimdeed was a wicked man. A humbugger and a thief.
A chainrubbing sinworm . A murderer and a creep.
He profited from charity and had more than his share of luck.
Then schemed and called it clever and cheated and called it pluck.

No argument or reason could sway him from his miserly turn of mind
When his only friend pointed the way to virtue he stuck a rope around the poor sod's neck
When the heavens sent him three spirits
He took their lessons of compassion and devised yet another plan of greed.

But PJ has a soft spot for a young man as wicked and ruthless as he.
He bankrolled and mentored the upstart, for less than his standard fee.
He treated him like his own son and trusted him with his own fate.
He gave advice and confessed old sins and that was his first mistake.

Dimdeed had squandered his social capital, and he was plum out of fortunate breaks
He hadn't an alibi, a scapegoat or an escape plan so the coroner put him behind bars
It was there he achieved the impossible and for the first time in his wretched life
Took an honest inventory of his transgressions and owned up for what he'd done.

He faced the fact that he'd be executed and made use of the time he had left
He put several good deeds in motion and even tried to set his betrayer on the right path
And in his last moment, his lucky streak returned, he got a pardon from the Governor
Who had his own past deeds to make up for
and invited him on a journey to bring peace and tofu to the world.
